Authentic Norwegian Bunads

– Handcrafted with Heritage and Heart

At Hulda Bunader, we create traditional Norwegian bunads using local materials, historical techniques, and an unwavering love for the craft. Every bunad is handmade by our certified bunad maker in Oslo, rooted in knowledge passed down through generations.

We also offer high-quality material kits and guidance for those who want to sew their own bunad—no matter where in the world they live.

What is a Bunad?
Bunads are more than garments—they are living symbols of Norwegian culture, worn to mark life’s most cherished moments: baptisms, confirmations, weddings, and of course, Norway’s National Day on May 17th. Whether you call it a folk costume, festdrakt, national dress, or bunad, it’s a piece of heritage.

Why We Do What We Do
Our bunads are made locally with authentic Norwegian fabrics and deep respect for historical sewing techniques. We never outsource production abroad. Not only is that unsustainable—it also goes against everything we believe in. Shipping traditional Norwegian fabrics across the world just to have finished garments sent back makes no sense to us.

Instead, we proudly keep the work in Norway and limit our production to ensure each bunad receives the time, care, and craftsmanship it deserves.

Bringing Norwegian Craft to the U.S.

As interest in Norwegian heritage grows among Norwegian-Americans, we’re excited to make our knowledge and materials more accessible in the U.S. Whether you’re looking to wear a bunad that reflects your ancestry—or you dream of sewing one yourself—we’re here to guide and support you.

With Hulda Bunader, you get more than a garment. You get a meaningful piece of history, made with care, tradition, and purpose.

Do we make other bunads as well?

We specialize in traditional bunads from the Østerdalen region of Norway. These are the bunads we know best and have worked with in detail over many years.

While our focus is on the styles shown here, we may be able to take on other bunads upon request—depending on availability of materials and historical sources. If you’re looking for a specific bunad not listed, we encourage you to contact us with your inquiry. We’d love to hear your story and see if we can help.
