Rooted in a museum original. Sewn by your hands.

The vest worn with the Østerdalen men's bunad traces its origins to a single surviving garment — an original vest from Os in Østerdalen, today preserved at the Norwegian Folk Museum in Oslo. That vest, made from brown-red plain-weave wool with black block printing, is the foundation for every Hulda Bunader version.

Our material kit follows that original closely. Later alterations and repairs to the museum piece have been deliberately left out, keeping the design as true to its source as possible. The result is a double-breasted vest with two parallel rows of buttons — a defining characteristic of this regional bunad.

Everything is included. Nothing to source separately.

The kit contains

  • All fabric pieces pre-cut and labeled, ready to assemble
  • Interlining in Årelin fabric
  • 20 custom-made brass buttons, produced specifically for this bunad
  • 1 meter of black leather cord
  • 1 pack of sewing needles (3–7 needles)
  • 1 spool of cotton thread
  • 1 spool of linen thread
  • English seam guide (PDF) — step-by-step instructions with photos covering the full process
